June Jones, aged 33, had been reported missing by her sister on Boxing Day and was found dead at around 2am on December 31 at her maisonette in Wyndmill Crescent on the Charlemont Farm estate.

Her former partner Michael Foran, 32, has been charged with her murder.

The cause of Miss Jones' death has still not been identified, the inquest in Oldbury heard, although police have said there was evidence of a 'sustained and brutal assault with a weapon'.

Black Country coroner Zafar Siddique adjourned the inquest for the outcome of the criminal proceedings.

He said medical examinations into blood and tissue samples also had to be carried out.

In a statement, the victim's family said they had been left 'completely devastated' by her death.

Police are still on the hunt for another suspect who may have helped the murder suspect escape from the Black Country.

Foran will next appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Wednesday. His expected trial date is May 28.
