Probation worker sacked over Lisa Skidmore rape and murder

A probation worker has been sacked for gross misconduct and another demoted after an investigation into the rape and murder of a nurse by a convicted sex offender, it has emerged.

Leroy Campbell strangled 37-year-old Lisa Skidmore after climbing in through the bedroom window of her Wolverhampton home and raping her.

He also attempted to murder her elderly mother before setting fire to the property in 2016.

A review of the case found the probation service failed to protect the public from Campbell, 57, who attacked Ms Skidmore just four months after his release from a 16-year ‘public protection’ prison term and had told a probation worker he was thinking of raping again.

Another probation officer involved has been demoted to an administrative role for serious misconduct, it is understood.

Both were suspended in September after a highly critical official review.

A report published today found 'significant' improvement was needed in the management of sex offenders in prison and on their release, which was described as 'poor'.

Ms Skidmore's sister Alison Parker said: "The probation officers will be giving evidence at Lisa's inquest next month and we look forward to seeing what they and others have to say. Theirs were not the only failings."
