Councillor Doug James, for Darlaston South, said negotiations are ongoing as to whether a knife bin will be placed at Grace Academy in Herberts Park Road, after initially being told it was a definite site.

He said members of the public had expressed concern at the news and wanted to reassure them.

"Negotiations on the siting of the surrender bin will involve members of the public and they will only go where members of the public have agreed," he added.

"People don't understand how a surrender bin would work, it's placed so people can place items in it discreetly, like a discreet bottle bank.

"I think people had visions of the bin being at the door of the school which is absolute rubbish."

“I have pledged to increase the number of knife bins across the West Midlands to encourage individuals to come forward and surrender any weapons they may be carrying.

“We are happy to work with Councillor Doug James in identifying a location for a potential knife bin in the Darlaston area."
