Man still in 'serious condition' in hospital after Wolverhampton pub trouble

A man is still in a serious condition in hospital after an incident outside a city-centre pub in Wolverhampton.

The Old Still Inn in King Street was sealed off by police after the man was injured shortly before 11pm on Saturday.

The man suffered a serious head injury when he was assaulted outside the pub, West Midlands Police said. He remained in a serious condition in hospital on Monday.

The age and identity of the victim is not yet known but he is understood to have been drinking at the pub before being injured outside.

A 36-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of assault, has been released under investigation, a West Midlands Police spokesman confirmed.

The Old Still, which is on the pedestrianised corner of Princess Street and King Street and is popular for karaoke, was closed in the immediate aftermath of the incident and a blue forensic tent remained outside on Sunday morning.

King Street remained closed either side of the pub on Sunday afternoon, with pedestrians unable to get through from Dudley Street or Princess Street.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "The victim is still in hospital in a serious condition.

"The 36-year-old has been released under investigation."
