Suspected gunman arrested by armed police in Dudley
A man has been arrested after being caught with a gun in the Black Country.
The weapon was the third gun officers have found in the West Midlands in three days.
Armed police officers recovered a handgun after stopping a Ford Fiesta in Overfield Road, Russells Hall, in Dudley.
The incident happened at 7pm yesterday and a man who was in the car at the time ran away and hid in nearby bushes.
A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm.
He is currently in police custody for questioning.
This operation is the third of its kind in as many days where officers have recovered firearms across the region.
In Birmingham a man has been charged with possessing a .45 self-loading pistol, loaded with five bullets, after police stopped a car in Edgbaston that had jumped two red lights.
Officers pulled over the Honda Civic on Hannafore Road at 3.15am on Monday and found a silver handgun after searching the vehicle.
Matthew Coke, aged 41 from Selwyn Road in Edgbaston, was arrested and later charged for possessing a firearm and drink driving.
He appeared at Birmingham Magistrates' Court and has been remanded in prison ahead of his next court appearance on February 5.
On Tuesday officers recovered a loaded shotgun that was found in a bag discarded by a suspect following a foot-chase in Coventry.
Officers gave chase at around 10.30pm after a man ran off after he saw the marked police car on Carter Road.
He was chased into Roundhouse Road and Princess Close where he escaped over a garden fence.
After searching the gardens, officers found a bag containing the deadly weapon which has now been seized for forensic examination.
Police efforts are on-going to identify the man.
