Motorist admits causing death of pensioner in Hednesford crash
A motorist has admitted causing the death of a Cannock pensioner by careless driving.
Christine Gerard, aged 62, of Lichfield, had originally been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
But the Crown Prosecution Service has now accepted her guilty plea to the lesser charge.
Maurice Murcott died in hospital hours after the collision involving a black Volkswagen Golf in Hill Street, Hednesford, at 5.15pm on November 24, 2017.
The 71-year-old pedestrian was found in cardiac arrest when ambulance crews arrived at the scene but paramedics managed to restore a heartbeat.
He was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham but died from his injuries later that night.
The case against Gerard had been listed for trial at Stafford Crown Court yesterday after the prosecution refused to accept her guilty indication last July to the lesser charge.
However Mr Peter McCartney, prosecuting, said that after considering experts' reports on the collision the Crown now accepted the death by careless driving admission.
Sentencing was postponed until tomorrow for reports to be prepared.
