Manhunt for murder suspect Michael Foran after ex-girlfriend June Jones found dead at flat
A manhunt has been launched to find the ex-partner of a woman found murdered on New Year's Eve.
Michael Foran, aged 32, is wanted by police after the body of June Jones was found in her maisonette on Wyndmill Crescent in the Charlemont area of West Bromwich.
Miss Jones, 33, had been reported missing by her sister on Boxing Day.
She was found dead five days later at around 2am on December 31.
Police today confirmed they are treating her death as murder as they launched an appeal to find her former partner.
A post mortem carried out on Wednesday did not reveal the medical cause of Miss Jones' death, but evidence was found of a 'sustained and brutal assault with a weapon'.
UPDATE: This afternoon police confirmed a 34-year-old man was arrested in the West Bromwich area on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Police continue to appeal for information about the whereabouts of Michael Foran.
Flowers have been left outside the home after Miss Jones' death rocked the community.
Foran travelled to Liverpool in the aftermath of Miss Jones' disappearance and officers have released CCTV images of him in West Bromwich on the day of her death, and the next morning of him at an Esso garage in Anfield, Liverpool.
Detective Inspector Warren Hines, from West Midlands Police's homicide unit. said: “We’re working hard to establish the full circumstances around the tragic death of June, and urgently need to trace Michael Foran.
“We have had officers in Liverpool searching for him for the past few days, and are now appealing for the help of the public.
“Michael Foran is a dangerous individual. If he is spotted, we need people not to approach him but to phone 999 immediately."
In a statement, June’s family said: “We’ve been left completely devastated by June’s death.
"We now need anyone who knows where Michael is to get in touch with the police as soon as possible.
“If he sees this appeal, we’d appeal to him directly to do the right thing and go to the nearest police station and hand himself in."
The property on Wyndmill Crescent was sealed off while forensic officers examined the scene and police carried out house-to-house enquiries.
