Martyn Turley spoke only to confirm his name when he appeared at Birmingham Crown Court on Thursday.

The 57-year-old is accused of murdering Stuart Roe in the early hours of December 30.

It is alleged Turley, of Whitehouse Street, Tipton, fatally wounded his victim in Springfield Drive, Halesowen.

A member of the public later discovered Mr Roe, of High Street, Quarry Bank, in the street but he was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Turley was remanded in custody and is due to appear before the same court on February 14.

He is also charged with possessing an offensive weapon in public.
