At one stage during the fight a Nissan Micra reversed down the street and careered into a house on Kestrel Road causing significant structural damage.

The 57-year-old man, who wishes to stay anonymous, suffered injuries to his head, leg and back, while his 80-year-old mother, who also lives at the address, suffered serious leg injuries and needed surgery.

He told the Express & Star: "One moment I was making a cup of coffee for my mum and I and then bang, there was a car in our living room.

"It was just total shock.

"My mum and I were covered in debris, we were both sat on the sofa and it covered up my legs with debris, my mum was almost completely covered.

"We didn't see or hear anything before it happened, the blinds are thick so we couldn't see any car lights headed for us before the crash, it's beyond belief.

"I have a few problems with my leg, and a plaster covering butterfly stitches on my head, I'll be seeing a doctor about my leg soon.

"My mum is stable at the moment, but she's elderly and was unwell anyway, and now this.

"The council will help us clear everything up now, some lads are coming down to help, we need a big clear up."

A damaged wall following the chaos

The man condemned the actions of those who brought chaos on the night of trouble

"I have stronger words to call them, but idiots is what the people are that did this," he said

"I've lived here for 50 years and its always been peaceful and nice.

"There's been the odd trouble in the past but nothing on this scale, and the huge fight that happened down the road."
