Reece Gordon appeared before Walsall Magistrates' Court on Saturday after being charged with blackmail, possession of a sawn-off shotgun and false imprisonment.

The charges are dated between December 24 and December 28.

The 23-year-old, of Whitburn Road, Manchester, entered no pleas to the three charges – and spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth.

Chairman of the magistrates, Jerome Campbell, who described the charges as 'serious offences', remanded Gordon in custody to next appear in court in January where he is expected to enter pleas.

It comes after West Midlands Police raided a property in Grangefield Close on December 27 and discovered firearms.

The raid was part of the force's Operation Yawbridge, which aims to take firearms off the streets in the region. So far, 135 firearms have been seized by officers.

Gordon will next appear before Wolverhampton Crown Court on January 28.
