Three arrested after driver flees police with flat tyres
Three men with links to the Black Country have been arrested after a late-night police sting.
Several cars were left damaged after a suspected dangerous driver from Bilston attempted to flee police despite having flat tyres.
He was eventually caught when the black Volkswagen Golf he was driving was boxed in by police vehicles in Birmingham.
Officers in an unmarked car spotted the 27-year-old driver behind the wheel of the car, which they believed had been stolen during a burglary in Handsworth Wood.
The driver initially pulled over but then sped away along Gas Street at about 10.45pm on Saturday, West Midlands Police said.
The force had an officer equipped with a stinger device in position just yards down the road and managed to deflate the car's tyres.
But the driver continued to flee, ramming several cars backed up in traffic in Berkley Street, just off the city's Broad Street.
The driver and two passengers, both aged 21, were later arrested on suspicion of car theft.
One of the passengers is an alleged prolific offender linked to gang activity in the Black Country, while the other passenger is from Dudley.
The driver was also arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving under the influence of drink or drugs, and theft, after he was found in possession of a bank card believed to belong to someone else.
On its Facebook page, Birmingham Police said: "A good spot by our officers and three crime suspects now in police custody."
