Drunk woman attacked police in Halesowen
Police were attacked by a drunk woman who fell asleep in a taxi in the second attack on officers in the Black Country in 24 hours.
The officers were called by the taxi driver in Halesowen at 3.20am on Friday.
When the officers tried to wake her up she attacked them resulting in bruising and swelling to the face and abrasions to the arms and legs.
Just on Thursday another officer was punched in the face in Brierley Hill, and across the border in Coventry a custody sergeant had a prisoner spit in her face.
West Midlands Police Federation Chairman Richard Cooke said 'violent attacks' on officers in the region continue daily.
He said: "What I know is a taxi driver had called as the female was drunk and they didn’t want to wake her up, the two officers attended and tried to wake the female up to take her home, however upon waking she attacked both officers resulting in numerous injuries.
"Thankfully injuries are relatively minor but include bruising and swelling to one officer’s face where she was punched and numerous abrasions to arms and legs where they were fighting with her for some minutes prior to back-up arriving.
"This just shows how violent attacks on our officers continue daily. Yesterday I spoke with a custody sergeant who had a prisoner call her over to a cell then spit in her face through the hatch. And another Pc punched in the face by a thug."
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "A 35-year-old woman from Halesowen has been arrested on suspicion of assault, after a police officer was assaulted in Stourbridge Road, Halesowen, at around 3.20am this morning.
"Whilst attempting to help the woman, the officer was kicked, had her hair pulled and was punched in the face. Fortunately her injuries are not serious.
"The woman remains in police custody."
