The 64-year-old was released under investigation today after spending nearly 36 hours in custody.
He had been arrested on suspicion of killing a woman who died after an ambulance service crew found her injured at a bungalow in the Hateley Heath area.
The woman was found after paramedics were called to the two-bedroomed property in Sussex Avenue, near the corner with Wiltshire Way, at 3.50am on Saturday.
The 60-year-old victim was taken to hospital but died soon after arriving.
Paramedics immediately alerted police and the man, who is believed to have been known to the woman, was arrested on suspicion of murder.
New neighbours
Neighbours said a couple had moved into the property only a few weeks ago and had not appeared in the best of health.

"I spoke to him a couple of times, asking how they were settling in and he said they were getting there. They only put curtains up a couple of days ago."
A former neighbour, who did not want to be named, said the couple moved into the bungalow from a three-bedroom house just half a mile away.
She described the woman as blind, or nearly blind, and said that the man was suffering from Parkinson's Disease. She also described him as a 'lovely man'.
Cordon
The property remained cordoned off over the weekend as officers made house-to-house inquiries, while a royal blue Nissan Juke remained parked in the driveway
