Man in hospital after hit-and-run in Smethwick
A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a hit-and-run in Smethwick - just hours before fatal crash nearby.
The incident took place in Cape Hill just after 2.20pm on Wednesday, prompting a police investigation.
It is thought a grey Skoda car hit the man, aged in his 60s, who was believed to be travelling on a motorised wheelchair.
The crash happened at the junction of Cape Hill and Montague Road.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "One ambulance attended and treated a man who suffered serious injuries."
He was taken to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
West Midlands Police today said the collision was being investigated as a 'hit-and-run'.

This incident came hours before a fatal crash involving two cars and a pedestrian on Waterloo Road, half a mile from the site of the hit-and-run incident.
A 68-year-old woman, named locally as Surinder Kaur Saund, died after being struck by a taxi while she was walking to her parked car.
A Mercedes, that was travelling on the same side of the road as the taxi, tried to overtake the taxi before crashing.
The Mercedes initially stopped further up the road but then drove off.
Officers detained five men a short distance from the scene.
