Cigarettes and booze stolen during double ram-raid in Wednesfield
Ram-raiders smashed their way into two shops to steal cigarettes and alcohol.
The gang reversed into the front of Perry Halll Post Office in Stubby Lane, Wednesfield, before making off with their haul at around 11pm.
Then five hours later they struck again, just round the corner at Costcutter in Silverton Way, again smashing their way in using a silver VW Golf.
K-Singh, the manager of the post office, said he was ‘devastated’ by the discovery that the shop had been ram-raided.
He said: “We shut at about 9pm and it happened at 11pm.
“We discovered it about 12.30am. I had a phone call from the alarm company and then from the police about it.
“I was devastated – mentally and physically and it was just crazy.
“We’ve closed the post office since Friday because of the impact – all of my counters have broken.
“I was one of the first people the scene and looking at the shop, it’s hard.
“We’re working around it now and you’re a lot more scared. Definitely a lot more scared that it could happen again.”
Mr Singh said he was unable to disclose the cost of the damage.
The Post Office, the shop side of the business, was soon open once the building was declared safe and the owners are continuing to trade without a store front.
The gang used a silver 2003 registration VW Golf in the raids on September 28, which will now have rear end damage.
A police spokesman said: “Police are investigating a burglary at a Costcutter store in Silverton Way in Wednesfield, which occurred just after 4am on September 28.
"It’s believed four people gained access to the shop and managed to get away with a quantity of cigarettes, after ram-raiding it with a car.
"A second similar burglary occurred just before 11pm on the same day, where a car was used to ram raid the shutter of a post office in Stubby Lane, where again, a quantity of cigarettes was taken.
"Inquiries into both incidents remain ongoing.”
