Tyrone Barnes, aged 28 and from Wolverhampton, was charged with causing death by dangerous driving on Monday after he was released from hospital nearly three weeks after the crash.

The 23-year-old victim, whose identity has not been released, died when the VW Golf he was a passenger in collided with a BMW X5 in Finchfield Road on August 22.

He was pronounced dead at the scene near Bantock Park while Barnes, who was allegedly driving the Golf, was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries to his leg and pelvis.

Two adults and two children who were travelling in the BMW were also taken to hospital as a precaution, as was a bystander who was treated for shock.

Barnes was arrested at the scene of the crash but was only taken into custody when he was discharged from hospital on Sunday.

He was charged by police on Monday and is also accused of driving with no licence and driving without insurance.

Barnes, of Skidmore Avenue in Bradmore, appeared at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court yesterday and was remanded in custody. He is due to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on October 9.
