Police launched a major investigation after the 26-year-old man, from Wolverhampton, was stabbed to death in Hampshire at the weekend.

The victim suffered a knife wound to the upper body and was dead on arrival at Southampton General Hospital.

A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder over the weekend and a 19-year-old man has now also been arrested on suspicion of murder.

A 15-year-old boy and a 42-year-old man have also been detained on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Flowers left at the scene

Hampshire Constabulary has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct because the older man arrested on suspicion of murder suffered a ‘medical episode’ shortly after he was detained.

The stabbing occurred outside a two-storey property in Salisbury Road, Totton, on Saturday evening.

A man living nearby told the Daily Echo: “I heard a lot of screaming as it started to get dark and went round to ask if they could keep the noise down.

“I saw a well-built man in a dark-coloured tracksuit lying face down on the ground. I thought the man on the ground had been punched but when they turned him over it was obvious he had been stabbed.”

The resident added a woman performed CPR on the victim in a desperate bid to save his life.

Floral tributes and a small red bible have been left at the murder scene.

In a statement issued on Sunday night Hampshire police said: “We are investigating the death of a 26-year-old man from Wolverhampton following a report of a serious assault.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 and quote Operation Rosette.
