Bouncers suspended after 'reveller attacked' during altercation at Stafford Wetherspoon pub
Two bouncers have been suspended after they allegedly attacked a teenager on the night of England’s World Cup semi-final.
Ashley Street, aged 18, was left injured following the incident at The Picture House pub in Bridge Street, Stafford.
Police are now investigating the alleged attack, which saw him ‘grasped around the throat’ and ‘punched to back of the head and eye socket’.
And JD Wetherspoon, which runs the pub, said the door staff team ‘acted wrongly’ and will no longer be using the services of the individuals involved at any of their pubs.
Mr Street’s father travelled from his home in the Isle of Wight after seeing footage of his son being attacked on the night of England’s game against Sweden on July 11.
Mr Street, aged 44, said: “As a father, it does not matter how old he is, you never want anything like that to happen to your son.
"He still has headaches and we had to go the the hospital but thankfully he has no bleeds or breaks. It could have killed him.
"He said he does not feel safe to go out anymore. I just want justice.
"The bouncers went up to my son’s friend and put their hands on him to remove him out of the building without any provocation.
"My son intervened saying ‘excuse me what are you doing?’ without touching the bouncers.
“Then the bouncers restrained my son in a very aggressive manner.
"Another bouncer comes in and delivers a punch and then my son is grasped around the throat after becoming very limp upon receiving punches to the back of the head and to the eye socket and he is then escorted off the property.”
Active Security Solutions, which employs the men, said: “We take this situation very seriously and we do not tolerate or condone this type of behaviour.
"In the meantime the door staff in question have been suspended from working at the premises whilst our investigations continue”
Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “As far as we are concerned members of the door staff team acted wrongly.
"We have been in touch with the company, who provide the door staff, and have made it clear that we will no longer be using the services of the individuals involved at any of our pubs.
"The Picture House is a well run pub. On this occasion staff were not aware of the incident until it was brought to their notice.”
Police have asked anyone with information to contact them on 101 quoting incident number 451 of 12 July.
