Ricky Walker, aged 27, is accused of killing Kayden Walker, who died in hospital in June 2016 after being found collapsed by paramedics at his family home in Walnut Close, Bilston.

Walker, of Kendrick Road, Bilston, and Kayden’s mother, 25-year-old Laura Davies, have both been charged with causing or allowing the death of a child, as well as ill-treatment or neglect of a child.

Walker alone is charged with murder.

Their trial is expected to last for around four weeks and a jury of six men and six women was sworn in yesterday at Birmingham Crown Court.

The defendants, who have pleaded not guilty to all charges, were granted bail until Friday, when the case against them was expected to be opened by prosecutor David Mason QC.
