Keelan, aged 15, was killed after trouble flared between a group in the Merry Hill area of Wolverhampton on May 29.

Police detained a 16-year-old boy at his home in Wolverhampton on Wednesday for questioning.

Detectives from West Midlands Police confirmed he was later released pending further investigations.

On Tuesday, officers visited the area to make a fresh appeal to the public for information in a bid to trace those responsible.

Keelan's parents paid tribute to their ‘loving’ son in the hours after his death, saying he had a bright future ahead of him.

His pregnant mother, Kelly Ellitts, said: “Nobody deserves anything like this to happen to them. I did not think this would happen to my son.

“He was an extremely loving person. He would leave me notes around the house and send me messages throughout the day asking if I was ok. We were very close."

The teenager's death was the second fatal knife attack in the West Midlands in recent weeks.

It followed the stabbing of 16-year-old Ozell Pemberton near a bus stop in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, on May 17.

There have been at least eight serious knife-related incidents, including the fatal attacks, since May 12.

On Tuesday evening, the force’s firearms officers were called to a disturbance in the street and seized weaponry including a hunting knife and a machete.
