Yobs ransacked Rushall Olympic Football Club in Walsall last week, causing £40,000 worth of damage in the process.

They also stole the team's £25,000 minibus, which is now a write-off after it was used as a battering ram through the club gates and dumped in nearby Hillside Crescent in Pelsall.

Following the raid, club bosses launched a crowdfunding page to raise funds to repair damage left behind and help the team get back on track.

Now, just days after the campaign was started, kind-hearted people have pledged their cash.

In total 40 supporters have made donations of more than £1,400 – which is well over the initial target of £1,000.

Vice-chairman of the club, Nick Dean, said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the messages of support and donations being made.

“It really does help restore your faith in humanity.”

The thieves left a trail of destruction behind following the incident in the early hours of Thursday – even emptying cans of soup and spreading butter in the Dales End ground clubhouse.

West Midlands Police is appealing for anyone who has information about the incident to call 101, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, or online via their website.

The crime reference number is 20WS/120607Q/18.
