Teenager becomes latest arrest over pensioner's murder

A teenager has been arrested in connection with the murder of a pensioner.

87-year-old Arthur Gumbley who died after suffering a badly bruised face and body when he was robbed in his own home on November 21.

Arthur Gumbley, aged 87, was attacked in a violent robbery at his own home in Little Aston near Walsall.

He was left fighting for his life and died three weeks later.

Staffordshire Police confirmed a 17-year-old male, from Stoke-on-Trent, was arrested in Basingstoke, Hampshire, in connection with the murder.

He remains in custody in Hampshire where he is being interviewed by officers from the force.

Cash and valuable jewellery, including a purse which belonged to his late wife, was stolen during the robbery on November 21 last year.

Four men, aged 42, 34, 33 and 29, all from Birmingham, were previously arrested on suspicion of Mr Gumbley’s murder.

They were released on bail while the investigation continues.
