Daryl Sampson stabbed his estranged father Robert in the heart with a hunting knife after the pair argued in the street.

The attack happened after Sampson had travelled from where he was living in Walsall to meet his father as the pair bid to reconcile.

The 29-year-old had been drinking by the time he arrived in Crookbarrow Road, Worcester, on November 16 last year.

On arrival, the defendant got into the victim’s vehicle and the pair began to argue, said the Crown Prosecution Service.

Prosecutors said the defendant then brutally punched and kicked his father, knocking him to the ground.

Moments later the defendant pulled out a hunting knife he had taken with him and stabbed his father in the chest before continuing to kick him to the head.

People living nearby called the police and Sampson remained at the scene where he was arrested.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to murder. However, after trial at Birmingham Crown Court, he was found guilty on Thursday.

He has been sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered to serve a minimum term of 24 years before being considered for release.

Senior West Midlands Crown Prosecutor Georgina Davies said: “Daryl Sampson used the pretence of reconciliation to carry out the premeditated, violent and callous murder of his unsuspecting father.

“The defendant claimed that his father was the aggressor and that he stabbed him in self-defence, however, we were able to prove that this was not the case.

"He will now have to deal with the consequences of his actions.

“Our thoughts are with Robert Sampson’s family and friends.”
