Three men broke into a house in Hereford back in March and held a knife against a man's throat, before taking a seven-month-old female French bulldog.

The man, in his twenties, was also punched in the face and attacked with pepper spray, while the thieves grabbed a handbag and various electrical items.

He was taken to hospital along with two other people inside the house, as a precaution from the effects of the pepper spray.

The offenders are described as three men, one white and two black, with Birmingham accents. They were dressed in dark clothing and wore scarves covering their lower faces.

Police have reason to believe the dog could have been sold to someone in Wolverhampton.

Investigating officer, detective sergeant Nick Shutt said: "We are continuing to carry out a thorough investigation into this offence to identify those responsible.

"Understandably, the dog's owner is absolutely distraught and we would love to help to reunite the dog with her. She has a distinctive white rectangle mark on her chest.

"It's believed the dog may have since been sold to someone in Wolverhampton, who could be unaware that she is cherished family pet. The dog is microchipped, so anyone who takes her to a vet will be able to check her details.

"If anyone has recently bought a young female French Bulldog, or knows anyone who has, please check the dog's microchip details. You could help to reunite a heartbroken owner with their beloved pet."

Anyone with information on the incident, which happened in Portland Street in Hereford, should contact West Mercia Police on 101, quoting incident 837s of 26 March 2018.
