Rugeley Police Station and patrol cars doused with petrol
A man has been arrested after petrol was poured outside Rugeley Police Station and onto marked police cars.
Fuel was quirted from a washing-up bottle onto the floor at the front of the police station, in Anson Street, and onto several marked vehicles around 5.30pm on Christmas Day, police say.
Detectives have today arrested a 42-year-old man, from Rugeley, on suspicion of attempted arson with intent to endanger life. He remains in police custody.
Officers inside the building smelled the petrol and when they went outside to investigate, they saw someone sprinkling the fuel on the building, the pavement surrounding it and onto police cars.
Before the officers could do anything, the person ran off down a track.
DS Michelle Banks, from Staffordshire Police, said: “This incident could have been a lot more serious had the officers not smelled the fuel and disturbed the offender.”
Anyone with information about the incident has been asked to call 101, quoting incident number 141 of 25 December.
