WATCH: CCTV captures vandals smashing glass entrance at Wolverhampton school causing £5k damage

CCTV released by Ormiston SWB Academy, based on Dudley Street, Wolverhampton, showed the masked and hooded pair persistently trying to smash through the glass fronted doors at the school.

Even more shocking is that during the vandalism, one of the perpetrators momentarily stops to take a photo of what they have done.

The school say they caused £5,000 of damage to the entrance, visibly smashing the glass. The incident took place at 3.30am on Saturday, November 4.

The footage was released on the school's Facebook page on Tuesday. It showed how the perpetrators repeatedly threw large stones at the doors, picking them up and throwing them again and again.

One of the two allegedly responsible was dressed in light blue jeans, white trainers and a white t-shirt with a grey hoody pulled over their face. They were also carrying a black across-body bag. The other suspect was dressed in dark black jeans, a lighter black coat with a hood and black trainers.

Posting on Facebook, the a spokesman for the school said: "Please share. We are looking for help to identify these individuals who caused over £5000 worth of damage to the front of the Academy at 3.30am on Saturday, November 4.

"If you have any information, please contact West Midlands Police on 101 referencing the crime number which is 20WV-237128L17. Please do not contact the Academy.

"We do not wish to see any derogatory comments posted on this, just support in tracking down the perpetrators. The Academy may be in a position to offer a small reward for the arrest and conviction of those responsible. Thank you."

By late Tuesday morning, the footage of the vandalism had been viewed almost 1,000 times and shared 70 times.

Commenting on Facebook, Diana Ray said: "I truly will never know what they get out of doing this sort of thing. It's totally senseless."

Lorraine Woodward said: "Truly shocking behaviour taking funds away needed for pupils education."

Lisa Earlston commented: "Why can't they just leave things alone?"

Martyn Palfreyman, vice principal at the school and head of operations and resources, said: "We just want help to find the perpetrators of this.

"Mainly, to prevent this type of thing happening again, and also so that we don't have to keep spending money on dealing with the impact of acts of vandalism.

"As an academy, we just want people to help us find those responsible."

MP Wolverhampton South East, Pat McFadden, said: “These are appalling scenes.

"I visited the school only on Friday to talk to the head teacher about the progress being made in teaching and exam results at the school.

"For this to then happen is terrible. The wilful disregard shown by those who did this for a building that is there to serve local children is a disgrace.

"I hope the perpetrators are caught and punished as soon as possible. "
