Bogus officials alert after Cannock distraction burglary

Police have asked residents to be on guard for bogus officials after a ‘large amount of cash and jewellery’ was stolen.

Staffordshire Police have reported that an elderly resident of Hednesford Road, Heath Hayes, was targeted by a conman claiming to be at his home to carry out garden maintenance.

Lydia Hooley, community engagement officer said: “The incident took place around 7:30pm on Thursday when a man entered the property involuntarily claiming to be doing some maintenance in the garden.

“The elderly resident discovered the man in her property, when he then tried to distract her into the garden. Luckily the resident became suspicious and asked the man to leave.

“The resident later discovered a large amount of cash and jewellery missing.

“We are urging residents to be on their guard following this bogus official incident

“We take this type of crime very seriously and are working hard to catch these criminals.”
