Parvez Akthar, 46, has been remanded in custody accused of killing mother-of-five Shaeen Akthar, 49, at their home in Wright Road, Washwood Heath.

Emergency services were called just before 4pm on Sunday October 15 to the home, where they discovered Mrs Akthar.

Unemployed Akthar was arrested a short time later and has been remanded in custody to appear before city magistrates this morning.

Detective inspector Paul Joyce, from West Midlands Police homicide team, said: “A lot of people arrived at the address after the incident and we are eager to speak to any of those people who we have not already spoken to.”

The family of Mrs Akthar has today released a statement praising the 'amazing' and 'caring' mother.

The statement read: “Our amazing, caring, beloved mother passed away on the 15th October 2017.

“All we ask in this difficult time is for your prayers, and for you to respect our privacy.

“In this tribute we would like to say to our mother: ‘We hope you are in a better place, looking down on us and nodding your head in approval. We want to tell you and the world, you will always be in our hearts’.

"Inna lillahi wa inna illahi rajioon" (To him we belong, to him we shall return).
