Top ten worst fly-tipping hot spots revealed

The top ten places for fly-tipping goods on the city streets this year range from streets in All Saints, Whitmore Reans to Coseley and Goldthorne Park.

Interestingly, some of the streets included in the list are repeat offenders, with some appearing on the list both in 2016 and 2017.

Maxwell Road in All Saints is top of the list for fly-tipping this year, up from third worst in 2016.

Hagger Street in Blakenhall has remained at the number two spot both in 2017 and 2016.

Bryne Road, also in Blakenhall was top of the list as worst place for fly-tipping in 2016, knocked down to fourth place this year.

Councillor Harbans Singh Bagri, Labour councillor for Blakenhall ward said: "It is quite a serious problem.

"The trouble is that these fly-tippers are quite well-informed and a lot of the time they work at night time so it means they are difficult to catch and even harder to prosecute.

"The local authority has been working hard to try and tackle this, but sadly, there is only so much that can be done when fly-tippers are acting in this way."

In July this year, we reported on how Blakenhall had become a 'dumping ground' to some in the city, with bags of household rubbish abandoned and piled high on pavements.

The rubbish includes discarded tables, chairs, carpets and bags of mixed household waste with residents stating that the rubbish is not only an eyesore, but attracts vermin.

On the list of fly-tipping hot spots, Bright Street in Whitmore Reans is in fifth place, All Saints Road is sixth and Brevitt Road in Goldthorne Park is seventh.

Arthur Street, also in Goldthorne is at number 10, with Anchor Lane in Coseley as number nine and Dudley Road at eighth.

Streets that no longer make an appearance in the 2017 list despite making the list in 2016.

Staveley Road in Whitmore Reans, Napier Road off the A4123 Birmingham New Road along with Drayton Street close to Graiseley Primary School didn't make this year's list.

Cousins Street off the A459 Dudley Road along with Fowler Street in Goldthorne Park and Lane Street in Bilston also didn't make the list for 2017.

Speaking on the lists, leader of the Conservative group at the council, councillor Wendy Thompson, said: "There are people who live in these areas being completely offended by what is going on.

"Action needs to be taken. The council needs to engage with community groups and residents to empower them to try and deal with the problem on the ground.

"What is also clear is that although these areas have been highlighted, fly-tipping has a much wider effect on people's perceptions of the city as a whole. Visitors to Wolverhampton will be frankly put off by this.

"The city tip also needs to be opened up more frequently to enable people to dispose of their rubbish safely and responsibly."
