Mobile phone footage captures chairs and tables being hauled through the air as trouble flares between people in the crowd.

A number of other people were injured in the violence at the end of the BCB Presents The World Awaits event.

Police today said a cordon had been increased on streets near the venues in a bid to piece together evidence from the scene.

Supt Sue Parker, from West Midlands Police, said: "What we know is that a number of people were attending a pre-planned boxing event.

"Unfortunately disorder broke out at about 11.30pm inside and spilled out into the streets.

"A 19-year-old sustained critical injuries and remains fighting for his life.

"It is believed the young man had attended the event although his injuries were sustained outside.

"At this moment we're unclear as to how the injuries occurred but believe a weapon was used.

"As well as the young man who sustained critical injuries, a number of others have lesser injuries.

"There's no information as to why this disorder occurred - it appears to have been spontaneous.

"We've increased the cordon size since this morning to give us the best opportunity to progress this investigation.

"With the location being in the centre of Walsall we're hoping to be able to lift the cordon before tomorrow morning.

"We're appealing for anyone with information to contact West Midlands Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
