Vikki Jones, aged 30, died in the crash in Wood Road, Lower Gornal, at around 10.10pm on September 22.

A BMW, Alfa Romeo and Mitsubishi vehicle were involved in the crash at the junction of Wood Avenue.

Ms Jones was treated at the scene by paramedics but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Friday evening residents from the road held a candlelit memorial service at the scene of the crash.

The vigil saw special readings given, along with a celebration of Ms Jones' life before a two-minute silence was held at 10pm.

It comes after residents asked for traffic calming measures to be installed on the stretch of road following the crash.

An 11-year-old girl, thought to be Ms Jones’ daughter, was also taken to hospital with arm injuries.

Floral tributes were laid at the scene last weekend and her family released a touching statement following the incident.

The tribute said: "“On 22nd of September, we lost her. We lost the most beautiful, caring, loving, funny, kind hearted person you could ever wish to meet.

"She was a beautiful, strong, caring and loving person who had a massive heart and a love for life. She lived for her family, especially her daughter. She was a fantastic mother, and a brilliant role model.

“Vikki was one of those special people, the kind you don’t come across very often. Losing her has put a great big hole in all of our lives that can never be replaced.

“Vikki’s family would like to say a special thank you to the wonderful residents of Wood Road, who stayed with Vikki ’s daughter until the emergency services arrived and who have since arranged a memorial service to honour Vikki ’s life.

"Also, to the emergency services who did everything in their power to help, the staff at the Children’s Ward of Russells Hall Hospital who looked after her daughter and also, to every single person who has donated money towards the cost of Vikki ’s funeral.

“Words cannot express how eternally grateful we are."

A 21-year-old man arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving was released on police bail last week.
