Specialist officers deal with Featherstone Prison row as fire breaks out in wing
A fire broke out at HMP Featherstone amid claims of violent disorder on one of the wings.
Specialist prison officers were needed to deal with the incident, which happened on Tuesday evening.
The Express & Star was contacted by a member of the public claiming he had received a call from an inmate reporting there was a fire on one of the wings as well as violent scenes.
The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) confirmed the incident was being dealt with, while Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service dispatched one engine to the Category C men's lock-up which sits on the border between Staffordshire and Wolverhampton.
Nobody was injured and the incident was resolved shortly before midnight.
An MoJ spokesman said: “Specially trained prison staff in conjunction with local prison officers successfully resolved an incident at HMP Featherstone on 29 August.
"There were no injuries to staff or prisoners.
“We do not tolerate violence in our prisons, and are clear that those responsible will be referred to the police and could spend longer behind bars.”
An inquiry into the disorder will now be carried out.
