'Shots fired' as man hit by car in Dudley violence

Armed police descended on Dudley last night after shots were reportedly fired and a man was seriously injured by a car.

A stretch of Himley Road remains sealed off this morning while officers scour the scene where the violence broke out at around 10pm.

Armed and unarmed officers rushed to the area near Grange Park after reports that a man had been knocked over by a car and that shots had been fired.

A 36-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries, but did not suffer any gunshot wounds and is believed to be the only victim.

The surrounding area was immediately searched by officers and forensic officers are continuing to examine the scene this morning, while CCTV is also being trawled.

Meanwhile local neighbourhood officers are carrying out reassurance patrols and house-to-house enquires in and around the area.

Chief Inspector Sean Phillips, the incident manager for West Midlands Police, said: “At this stage no other victims have been identified; checks are being carried out to establish whether this is definitely the case.

“Gun crime is a high priority for us and we will be working round the clock to identify who is responsible.

"We urge anyone who was in the vicinity, and saw what happened, to contact us as soon as possible with any information."
