Prostitute blighting bungalows in Caldmore

Prostitutes are a ‘continuing’ nuisance for elderly residents in a set of bungalows – but housing bosses have admitted they are almost powerless to do anything about it.

Accord has contacted tenants at Henry Boys in Caldmore stating the issues were a police matter.

The housing provider has pleaded with residents at the properties, which are sat slightly back from Wednesbury Road and also referred to as Alms Houses, to report incidents in order to create a ‘spike’ in police logs.

It comes after the Express & Star revealed residents had concerns with alleged prostitution at Farrington House on the opposite side of the the road – which is also run by Accord.

A resident at Henry Boys, who did not wish to be named, said: “When going out it’s a regular occurrence to be accosted by the prostitutes wanting ‘business’ and I have been verbally abused by prostitutes on a number of occasions.

“The prostitutes in their drugged up or drunken state won’t take no or variation thereof for an answer.

“Then there are the pimps that regularly hide in the shadows of the gateways opposite, on the car park of Henry Boys or the adjacent bus shelter.

“This is intimidating when returning back in the evenings.

“The shouting, yelling and screeching from the prostitutes is also a regular nightly occurrence, all night.” The resident added: “Rather than engage with residents and be proactive to resolve the issues, Accord is alienating and leaving some very vulnerable residents at risk.”

Walsall Councillor Aftab Nawaz, who represents the area, expressed his anger at the lack of action from Accord. He said: “We are fighting a battle almost in the shadows. The police are saying they haven’t got the resources and say just keep reporting it. But this is a blight on our communities. I am really annoyed Accord say they can’t do anything about it. It is unfair on the residents living there. It is not very responsible.”

A letter sent to tenants from Accord states: “It has come to our attention that there are continuing issues with prostitution at Henry Boys. However, as this is a police matter, we are unable to assist as an initial contact. If you find there is an issue at Henry Boys with prostitutes, or any other issues which are police matters, you must call the police personally on 101 each and every time there is an issue. Doing so will create a call ‘spike’ in the police’s logs, which will facilitate further action.”

Police said they were not aware of prostitution reports but encouraged people to call 101. Accord declined to comment further.
