Teens arrested as armed police sent to Staffordshire A-road

Two teenagers were arrested after armed police were sent to rural Staffordshire.

Firearms officers descended on the A38 on Saturday evening after reports of an air rifle being seen.

Staffordshire Police were called to the road south of Lichfield, near Muckley Corner, at around 5.20pm

The force also received a similar report of youths in a silver MG ZR on the A38, near to the Catholme turn-off, at around 6pm on Friday.

An 18-year-old man from Chasetown, Burntwood, and a 17-year-old boy from Derby have both been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

Inspector Jonathan Staite said: "We'd like to reassure the public who may have seen firearms officers and other police officers on the A38 today that two arrests have been made in connection with these reported incidents.

"We'd like to thank the public for coming forward immediately to report these incidents and providing us with information."
