Murder bid arrest as woman 'stabbed to death' in Dudley

A woman has died after reportedly being stabbed in Dudley.

A man aged 65 was today arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after the 55-year-old woman suffered serious injuries.

Police were called to Hillside Road, Wrens Nest, at around 8.57am. The victim died at the scene, where the suspect was also held.

West Midlands Police spokeswoman Kate Baker said officers were called 'to reports of a woman being stabbed'.

She said of the suspect: "He is currently helping police with their enquiries.

"At this stage we are not are looking for anyone else and believe the parties were known to each other.

"A forensic post mortem will take place in due course.

Residents said emergency services arrived 'from everywhere'

"Police have cordoned off the scene and are carrying out forensic investigations and house to house enquiries."

Retired mental health nurse Ray Langford, 79, has lived in his house in the road for 47 years.

He said: "It's a nice community around here and it's not the kind of thing you would expect."

Brian Beckett, 78, a retired painter and decorator, said: "I heard the sirens this morning and saw the police from my garden.

"Then they pulled up outside and I saw the ambulance as well.

"Then they came from everywhere, loads of other police cars, and the air ambulance came afterwards.

"Nothing like this has ever happened since I've been here. One of my neighbours said she hasn't known anything like it."

Two police vans were parked up outside an address in Hillside Road yesterday afternoon, while forensic teams could be seen going in and out of the property.

Uniformed officers were stationed outside, while groups of residents stood in the street watching events unfold.

One resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said: "At about 9.05am I saw loads of police cars coming up and they went running up.

"Then the air ambulance landed at the school and they went in as well."
