Chief Constable Gareth Morgan replaces Jane Sawyers who had been in the role for two years.

He said: “I am delighted to join Staffordshire Police and look forward to working with colleagues and communities to keep Staffordshire safe

“The threats facing the country from terrorism and the changing nature of crime mean that in Staffordshire we need to be equipped to deal with these issues.

"I believe that local communities are the bedrock of policing and working with our partners locally I am confident we can meet these challenges.

“The continuing reductions in budgets are an added factor as we seek to prioritise the resources we have available and we will be embarking on a significant change programme to ensure that policing meets the current demands we face with the budget available.”

Gareth embarked on his career in 1987 when he joined West Midlands Police. He has also worked in West Mercia and Warwickshire.

He is joining Staffordshire from Avon and Somerset where he has been the Deputy Chief Constable since 2014.
