M6 crash: Lorry driver in court over death of courier
A man accused of causing death by dangerous driving on the M6 has appeared in court.
Michael Preston was allegedly behind the wheel of a Scania R450 lorry when it collided with Anthony Marson on the northbound carriageway between junctions 10 for Walsall and 10a for the M54 and Wolverhampton, on August 21, last year.
The 29-year-old from Telford appeared at Walsall Magistrates Court on Wednesday for a short preliminary hearing.
Due to the nature of the charge the case was automatically committed up to Wolverhampton Crown Court where Preston will appear on Wednesday, July 12.
No formal plea has been entered at this stage.
A pre-inquest hearing into the death heard how Mr Marston, from Telford, was working as a courier and had stopped his Mercedes E300 estate on the motorway to check the trailer when he was hit by a HGV a few minutes later, suffering multiple fatal injuries.
The inquest was adjourned until the conclusion of the criminal case.
