On Monday West Midlands Police detained a 27-year-old man on suspicion of being concerned in the commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

The force confirmed it was a 'pre-planned' arrest while stating it was not connected to the recent attacks in London or Manchester.

Originally they had 48 hours to either release or charge him but now officers from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit have been given until next Tuesday to hold the man and continue their enquiries.

A force spoksewoman said: "A warrant of further detention was granted on Tuesday 13 June for the 27-year-old man and detectives have up to seven days before charging, releasing, bailing or applying to court for a further extension of detention."
