Revealed: Nine arrests over smoke bombs this season
Nine people have been arrested at football league games in the West Midlands over smoke bombs this season.
West Midlands Police reported bombs were let off at 16 league games over the 2016/17 season.
They include two smoke bombs in the game between Walsall and Charlton in August last year. No-one was arrested.
Smoke bombs were let off at Walsall games against Sheffield United and Swindon.
No smoke bombs were reported to have been let off at the Molineux, but one went off at Aston Villa's Villa Park for the home games against Wolves.
One person was arrested in connection to the Villa Park flare.
At West Bromwich Albion's The Hawthorns, one person was arrested in connection with a smoke bomb against Derby County, and another against Everton.
Three people were arrested in connection with smoke bombs at Birmingham City over last season.
One was for the tie against Preston North End, and two against Newcastle United.
Under The Sport Events Act 1985, it is an offence for a person to enter a football ground with a smoke bomb.
Those caught face up to three months' in prison if convicted.
