In all of the offences, which have mainly occurred in the Highgate area of Walsall during daylight hours, the victims were approached from behind and had their handbag snatched from their shoulder or hand.

Two incidents have been reported in Jesson Road while others have occurred in Highgate Road, Emery Close, Sandwell Street, Birmingham Street, Butts Road and Buchanan Road.

In some cases they have been close to alleyways so the culprit could make a quick getaway.

Kevin Pitt, West Midlands Police engagement and consultation officer, said: "Most victims have been older ladies though at least two younger women have been targeted.

"The handbags have contained various items including purses and mobile phones.

"These offences have occurred at various times of day, but always during daylight, and have left the victims shaken but thankfully without major injuries.

"Police officers are investigating these crimes and are keen to speak to anyone who may have information that may assist.

"Unfortunately, due to the nature of the offences we do not have an accurate description of the offender who is likely to be a young white man.

"At the moment there is no evidence that the same person is committing all these crimes, however that is a possibility we are keeping in mind."
