Speaking during a meeting with Staffordshire Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis, assistant police chief constable Nick Adderley revealed the force is looking at using the cameras to address the issue of fly tipping across the county.

During the performance governance meeting, Mr Ellis asked Mr Adderley: "What is the law around using covert pencil cameras to identify areas where fly tipping is a particular problem for us?"

In response, Mr Adderley said: "This forms part of our plans to address fly-tipping.

"There is nothing to stop us doing that.

"We are looking at setting up covert cameras, we have the power to do it and we are going to do it."
