Staffordshire Police is now hunting two men after the distraction burglary in Burntwood on Wednesday. And the force has now released two e-fit images of the offenders in a bid to track them down.

A police spokesperson said one of the men told the pensioner he would check her fencing in case it needed to be replaced after he knocked on her door at about 8.30am.

"The woman allowed him into her home and he inspected the fencing and offered to replace it," the spokesperson added.

"She agreed to pay him a sum of money, went to collect cash from a cupboard and, at his request, opened a back door so he could fetch an extension lead.

"But instead of completing the work he took £3,100 in cash before leaving the property."

The first offender is described as being white and in his forties. He was about 5ft 9 ins to 6ft and of a large build. He was wearing a black, long-sleeved top with dark trousers and a hat.

The woman told police that she believed another man had been involved. He was sat outside her house in a vehicle, which could have been a white or silver Vauxhall Astra car or van. There was no sign writing on it.

The second man is described as being white, aged about 18 or 19, and of sturdy build. He had light blond hair and was wearing a dark polo suit.

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact Staffordshire Police on 101 and quote incident log 108 of Wednesday, February 8.
