Willenhall murder probe as woman found stabbed to death in flat
[gallery] A woman has been found stabbed to death at her home in Willenhall today, sparking a murder probe.
Police and paramedics were called to Gomer Street just before noon.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and a man aged 46 was arrested in a car outside the property on suspicion of murder.
A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "The scene has been cordoned off while forensic examinations take place.
"Detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection with the woman's death."
This afternoon there was a large police presence outside The Pinnacle flats.
A car which had police tape on it was pictured being taken away from the scene.
Receptionist at the Willenhall CHART centre Jane Harvey said: "I came to work just before 1pm and there were three cars parked in Wolverhampton Street.
"There was an ambulance and a paramedic outside parked on the road and the flats were cordoned off.
"I didn't think I was going to see that when I went to work. With all the police cars and all that I thought there was something bad going on."
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said crews responded to calls just before noon reporting that a woman was in a cardiac arrest.
The spokesperson said: "Ambulance crews were called to an address in Gomer Street, Willenhall by police at 11.55am on Wednesday morning to reports of a woman in cardiac arrest.
"Two ambulances, a paramedic area support officer and the MERIT Trauma Doctor were sent to the scene.
"Sadly, there was nothing that could be done to save the woman and she was confirmed dead at the scene."
Councillor Diane Coughlan, who represents Willenhall South, said: "It is absolutely shocking to hear this.
"I am lost for words, we had another murder in the town not so long ago.
"It is bad for the reputation of the town and shocking for myself and residents to hear about.
"The road is well used, we have doctors surgeries there and I imagine at this time of day it would have been quite busy.
"That is another concern for me, but I am just truly shocked at this."
