Stolen car found submerged in Wednesfield canal leaving residents puzzled is recovered
A stolen car discovered fully submerged in a canal in Wednesfield has been recovered.
The Ford Ka was found in The Wyrley and Essington Canal, off Lichfield Road, prompting a call to West Midlands Police yesterday morning.
Only the roof of the silver car could be seen above the water's surface. Police officers arrived at the scene at 4.40am.
They checked over the vehicle, which was believed to have been stolen from the Wolverhampton area.
However, it was concluded too difficult to move by officers, who then contacted the Canal and River Trust.
Yesterday evening, fire crews from Falling Park were called to the vehicle by a concerned member of the public. Firefighters arrived at around 4.30pm.
They checked no-one was inside the vehicle.
The Wyrley and Essington Canal runs from Wolverhampton to Huddlesford Junction near Lichfield.
Fallings Park Crew Commander Paul Lovell said: "It looks like the vehicle was nicked and then dumped.
"People have then seen it in the afternoon and we've been called down to check on it. It's down by the Dog and Partridge."
Wednesfield Police tweeted to confirm the car had been removed this morning.
Investigations continue into the theft.
