The victim, 19, was walking along Britannia Road and into Britannia Park, Rowley Regis, when the attacker grabbed her from behind.

She fought back and fled to safety, possibly slightly injuring the attacker in the process.

He was described as mixed race or Asian, of medium build and with brown hair. He was wearing a dark hoody, dark trousers and trainers.

It happened on Monday at some time between 11pm and 11.30pm.

Det Insp Michelle Thurgood, from the Public Protection Unit, said: "Understandably, the woman has been left highly distressed by this incident and she is being supported by specially trained officers who are still in the process of fully gleaning all of the information and detail from her.

"At present it is understood that the woman asked a group of people for a cigarette outside the Britannia Inn before the attack. We are appealing for these individuals to get in contact as they may have vital information about what happened."

Contact the sexual offences team at West Bromwich police station on 101, or Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111.
