Woman seriously injured in Burntwood attack

A woman remains in a serious condition after she was assaulted in Burntwood yesterday evening.

The 53-year-old, who is from the town, was found lying unconscious on the pavement outside St. John's Church on High Street, Chase Terrace, at around 10pm on Wednesday.

She was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

A 20-year-old man, also from Burntwood, was arrested at the scene.

Police tents were set up and the road was closed off while officers investigated the incident and collected evidence from the scene.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Jamie Arrowsmith said: "We were called by Staffordshire Police to reports of a woman who had been assaulted.
"We were called at 10.07pm near to St John's Community Church.
"We treated a woman for a head injury and a reduced level of consciousness and transported her to hospital."
