Soma Jasim, aged 28, and Arkani Muradi, 35, appeared before magistrates yesterday accused of knowingly being involved with fraudulent activity at Euro Shop in Newhampton Road West.

The pair, of Highfield Road, Birmingham, are also charged with 48 other offences which include selling alcohol and cigarettes to children, selling counterfeit cigarettes and knowingly housing smuggled goods.

It is alleged that fraudulent activity involving Jasim and Muradi has cost HM Revenue & Customs an estimated £61,000.

In a short hearing the pair spoke only to confirm their names, ages and address.

No indication of plea was given and all matters were sent to Wolverhampton Crown Court for trial, with a pre-trial preparation hearing to take place on August 16.

Both defendants were given unconditional bail.

The charges came after a number of seizures at Euro Shop by police and trading standards officers.
