Twelve due in court on sham marriage allegations

Twelve people from the West Midlands are to stand trial over their involvement in a sham marriage conspiracy.

All the accused, and another woman from Oxford, appeared before a judge at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Monday.

Clemence Marijeni, aged 42, of Weston Road, Bilston, is being held in custody.

The remaining 12 defendants are on bail.

A trial has been set for July 11 and scheduled to last between six and eight weeks.

Two interpreters, one speaking Slovak and the other Czech, were in court to assist some of the defendants.

Those to stand trial, in addition to Marijeni, are: Rita Puzova, 49; Jozef Puzo, 28; and Vojtech Puzo, 52, all of St Paul's Road, Smethwick; Lenka Jacova, 38; and Peter Frederick, 26, both of Prosper Street, Wolverhampton; Idris Agia, 31, Hodnet Grove, Highgate, Birmingham; Donald Nwachuchwu, 41, of Sabell Road, Smethwick; Victor Ibeh, 32, of Mostyn Street, Whitmore Reans; Cherene Cotterill, 26, of Thornhill Road, Handsworth; Olatunji George, 44, of Somerland Road, Sheldon, Birmingham; Pavel Farbar, 29, of Oxhill Road, Handsworth; and Aishatu Ibrahim, 25, of Routh Road, Oxford.
