Carl Tindall manslaughter trial: Dying man 'bundled into car and dumped in street'
A man died after he was punched to the ground before being bundled into the back of a car and then dumped in the street with serious head injuries, a court heard.
Carl Tindall, 35, was found slumped and unresponsive by passers-by on Cull Avenue in Stafford on August 22 last year. He died two days later after suffering a fractured skull and a brain haemorrhage.
Jamie Sleigh, of St John's Road, Cannock, denies killing Mr Tindall. Anthony Boddison, of St Peter's Gardens, Stafford, and sisters Sarah Hurmson, 36, of Greig Court, Heath Hayes, and Louise Hurmson, of Avenue Road, also Heath Hayes, each deny assisting an offender.
During the opening of the trial at Stafford Crown Court, the jury was told that Mr Tindall, of Brocton, Stafford, had been out drinking to 'drown his sorrows' after hearing a rumour his girlfriend Sarah Hurmson had been sleeping with her sister's boyfriend Anthony Boddison.
He later went to confront Boddison, 26, at a house in Plant Crescent in Stafford. But when he arrived he was punched by another man Jamie Sleigh, prosecutor Mr James Curtis said.
Sleigh, 36, himself had been out drinking with Mr Tindall's girlfriend on the same day and claimed he slept with her that night, despite the fact he had a pregnant girlfriend back at home.
The pair had been out at the Crystal Fountain pub in Cannock with Sarah's sister Louise and her partner Boddison for several hours before all four returned to the address where the violence unfolded. Mr Curtis said neighbours witnessed Sleigh strike Mr Tindall, aged 35, twice in the face causing him to fall to the ground hearing an 'audible crack' due to the impact.
It is alleged Boddison then came out in the aftermath and helped Sleigh put the stricken man in the back of his BMW 1 Series only to drive him to Cull Street, near to County Hospital, where they left him slumped on the pavement around 9.30pm. The pair later told police they originally wanted to take him to hospital.
Passers-by including an off-duty nurse tended to Mr Tindall and called emergency services but he remained unresponsive. He was taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital where he died two days later.
Boddison and the two Hurmson sisters all told police it was Boddison who struck Mr Tindall in self defence alleging the victim was in a drunk and jealous rage. They originally denied Sleigh was at the scene for the sake of his pregnant girlfriend, the court heard.
The trial continues.
